For those who have crowded or crooked teeth and are looking for methods other than standard metal braces, Invisalign is the perfect option, and it’s one that our Markham dentistry is proud to offer.
Invisalign works using clear plastic aligners that are custom fitted to your teeth. As they are worn, they will gradually shift teeth into place much like regular braces. The difference is, Invisalign does not use metal brackets or wires, and the aligners are almost invisible. A new set of aligners are put on every two weeks, as the teeth are gently shifted into a straightened position.
How it Works:
The first step is an initial exam to ensure that Invisalign is the right method. If we determine that you are a good candidate, we take x-rays, photographs, and dental impressions. These are then sent to Invisalign to create a 3D model of your mouth. From there, we create a treatment plan. The treatment plan typically takes approximately a year.
From the personal plan, a series of Invisalign aligners are custom made for your mouth. The aligners are to be worn for 20 – 22 hours each day, and can be taken out to eat, and to brush and floss your teeth as needed. Aligners will be replaced by new ones every two weeks until the end of treatment, as your teeth gradually move. Dental check-ups are also important to track progress throughout the process. In some cases, retainers will be required to keep teeth in their newly straightened positions.
Because Invisalign is clear and removable, it’s much less invasive than standard braces.
