Dental Tips for Tongue Health

We pay a lot of attention to how clean our teeth are each day – we brush, we floss, and make sure they’re looking their best. But dental health is about more than just teeth; the whole mouth is important, and that includes our tongues. There are a few ways to ensure that your tongue is clean and healthy, that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.

Brush It – When you’re brushing your teeth, be sure to include your tongue in the process. Gently glide your tooth brush as far back as you can, removing the build up that may appear as a white film.

Scrape It – If you’ve never used a tongue scraper before, it may seem a little weird at first. But they’re very effective at removing plaque from your tongue and keeping it clean. All you do is place the small device at the back of your tongue and drag it forward, removing any build-up.

Rinse It – Keeping your mouth well-hydrated is also helpful to your tongue’s cleanliness. Drinking water regularly and rinsing with water or mouthwash will wash away some of the plaque that builds up on the tongue’s surface. It is especially effective when used after brushing or scraping your tongue, rinsing the build-up that was loosened.

These tips will help keep your tongue clean and healthy. And, of course, always pay attention to any changes in appearance or texture. Your regular appointments at Southeast Dental in Markham are also important, so our dental team can examine your tongue along with the rest of your mouth.
