Summer may not be quite over yet, but with September getting closer that means it’s almost time for back-to-school! Choose Fruits & Veggies – While you can’t keep an eye on them all day, you can prepare them with healthy lunches and snacks to take to school. Pack lots of fruits and veggies, and even hard cheeses to help clean their teeth throughout the day. Avoid sugary treats whenever possible, as those sugars will stay on their teeth for a long period of time and potentially cause decay.
Be On Guard – If sports are a big part of your child’s school day, you may want to consider having a mouthguard made for them. As you know, accidents happen, and a mouthguard will protect their teeth from damage.
Stick to a Routine – Chances are, the routine in the summer will differ from a regular school-year routine. Make sure your child is used to brushing each morning and night, as well as flossing each day. By keeping their routine the same, it will be easier for them to follow it.
New Tools – While you’re out shopping for all of the back-to-school supplies, be sure to pick up a new toothbrush, new floss, and other dental tools that your child may use. Toothbrushes should be replaced every 3-4 months, but the new school year gives an excuse to get them a fresh new one.
