How To Fight Bad Breath

How to fight bad breath:

It’s something that we’ve all dealt with in one way or another, but rarely discuss due to its taboo nature: halitosis, or bad breath. Whether it’s a problem you often worry about or someone else’s breath that is causing you grief, it can be a sore subject when it’s difficult to get rid of.

Here are a few ways to combat this potentially embarrassing problem:

Brushing & Flossing Regularly

While it seems like an obvious option, it’s also the most important. Brushing at least twice each day and flossing daily is the best preventative measure when it comes to bad breath. A clean mouth means less odour-causing bacteria that may be responsible for your bad breath.

Tongue Scrapers

Tongue scrapers do exactly as the name suggests – they are used to scrape the surface of your tongue to ensure that plaque and food particles are removed as much as possible. A great deal of bad breath is caused by that layer of plaque on the tongue, and the proper scraper is a great way to remove it.

Mouthwash

If brushing and flossing aren’t doing the trick, try a daily mouthwash as well. There are specific formulas that tackle different problems, so it’s a good idea to compare different types to find exactly what will benefit your mouth best.

Stop Smoking

Non-smokers can ignore this tip, but if you’re a smoker – take steps to quit as soon as possible. Beyond the bad breath that smoking causes, the oral health risks are numerous. So for your breath, but more importantly your overall health, making a plan to quit is very important.

See Your Dentist

If nothing seems to be battling the bad breath, it’s always a smart idea to see your dentist and further explore your options. Southeast Dental in Markham will work with you to find out the cause and offer solutions – call 905-471-2002 to make your dental appointment with us today.
