Though teeth are surprisingly strong, damage can still easily happen in the form of cracks, breaks, and chips. These can occur due to a sports injury, biting on particularly hard items, and weak teeth.
So what do you do when you have a chipped tooth? First, reach out to us at Southeast Dental – either make an appointment or, in an emergency, get in touch with our Markham clinic right away. We’ll help you decide which of the options below are the best for you.
Often used to create perfect, movie star smiles, these are a good option for chipped or broken teeth – especially since they can be shaped, sized, and coloured however needed. Porcelain veneers are made of multiple thin layers of ceramic that are bonded directly onto the teeth.
Like porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding allows for shaping and polishing so the fixed tooth can blend in with the rest of your teeth. It utilizes a composite resin, and can replace the entire tooth or only the parts of the tooth that have been broken or chipped.
Inlays can be made out of different materials including gold, porcelain and composite resin. They are made from a mould of the tooth and then cemented in place. Onlays are similar to inlays, except they are placed on top so they can cover the areas of a tooth cusp that has been broken or damaged. A crown can be placed over an onlay to restore the tooth to its original appearance.
